ULM TRAVELS TO BREITENGUSSBACH SUNDAY!
Fresh from an excellent team win featuring a balanced offensive attack with 7 players in double figures, ratiopharm Ulm boards the bus again Sunday for their second road trip of the weekend when they travel just north of Bamberg for a 2.Bundesliga South basketball game against Breitengussbach. At 12-2, Ulm looks to remain hot on the trail of league leading Nurnberg on Game Day 15 in league play.
Michael Bree
Ulm enters the game without shooting guard Kenny Price (still sidelined with an injured ankle), but with momentum from Friday nights win. 7 Ulm players reached double figures on a night when everyone stepped up their game to make up for Price's absence. New Ulm point guard Shaheen Holloway made an immediate impact on his new team with three key three point shots in the third quarter breaking the game open. Both Holloway and point guard Michael Bree played extremely well as Bree earned Taylorhoops.com Player of the Game honors for the second game in a row finishing with 10 points and 12 assists. Even more important, the two played well together demonstrating excellent leadership and passing skills.
Forwards Florian Mobius and Antoine Sinclair also showed why Ulm chose to sign a point guard rather than fill the vacant power forward spot left by the release of Niki Arinze over Christmas break. Mobius shot well from the perimeter hitting 7 of 10 for 16 points to go with 7 rebounds. Not to be outdone, Sinclair worked out for 15 points and 7 boards of his own. Center Maksym Shtein continued his strong season with a great double double of 16 points and 14 boards.
Young Breitengussbach enters Sunday's action with a 4-10 record in 2.Bundesliga South play. A farm team for Bundesliga team Bamberg, Breitengussbach plays with a handful of top young German players including skilled four man Andreas Saller and active forward Max Weber. Point guard Sajmen Hauer has show skills for a prospect and Bernd Endres is another young forward who plays hard. Felix Ferner is an active defender who works hard at the point guard positiong and Phillip Schumm adds toughness and skill on the perimeter. For experience, shooting guard Henrik Gese provides an excellent perimeter shooter while American Paul Haynes has shown good quality since his signing in November. Haynes leads the team in scoring at 21ppg adding 4.8rpg while shooting 40% from three. Multi talented Saller brings 14.5ppg, 6.7rpg and shoots an impressive 53% from three point land. Gese adds 13.7 and 33% three point shooting. The team released veteran big man Abdul Shamsid-Deen earlier during break when the left handed big man requested his release. Breitengussbach head coach, Derrick Taylor, brings his talent and experience from years as an excellent player in the Bundesliga and his impact on the young players at Breitengussbach has been positive this season. Good development of young players and improved team play have been a direct result from Taylor's hardwork.
Breitengussbach can be a challenging place to play for opponents. Last season, Ulm emerged victorious through a hardfought game early in the season. Without question, Ulm players must respect the challenge ahead of them Sunday afternoon. Tip off is 5pm German time.
