EJ GALLUP IS AN ULMER!
ratiopharm Ulm extends EJ Gallup's contract for next season!
Wednesday ratiopharm Ulm announced the next addition to their 2007-2008 roster as the Danube-dwellers extended the contract of guard EJ Gallup through next season. EJ joins Captain Emeka Erege, All Star power forward Jeff Gibbs, skilled post man Bryan Lucas, energizer Konrad Wysocki and dependable Florian Mobius in the Ulmer fold for next year. After joining his new team in late March, Gallup has impressed the Ulm coaches and staff with his talent and personality as a perfect fit within the team. Excited about extending the crafty combo-guard, ratiopharm Ulm personnel believe Gallup can be a major offensive contributor for the team next season.

EJ split his college basketball career between University of Albany and Coastal Carolina. Playing as a freshman and sophomore at Albany, Gallup starred for the Great Danes averaging 17.4ppg 3.4reb while shooting 41% from three as a freshman and 18.4ppg 3.4reb in 9 games as a sophomore. As a freshman, EJ gave Army 31 points and was a second team All-Independant Division 1 selection. Transfering after a coaching change, the 6'4 guard found a home under then Chants Head Coach Pete Strickland. With Coastal, Gallup scored 9.9ppg with 2.5reb as a junior before exploding to team-best 17.2ppg 3.1reb and 43% three point shooting as a senior. EJ was named First Team All-Big South ranking 18th nationally in three point shooting. Gallup led the Big South Conference in free throw percentage and three point field goals made and finished third in steals. EJ topped 30 point mark twice with a career high 33 point performance against Radford and a 30 point game against College of Charleston.

Since joining Ulm in late March, EJ has been a perfect fit.
After his stellar college playing career ended in 2003-2004, in July EJ ventured overseas to the Courtside Camp in Frankfurt Germany where he was the top player on display. ratiopharm Ulm GM Thomas Stoll was in attendance and immediately approached EJ about playing in Ulm. From his outstanding camp performance, EJ commanded excellent opportunities including several first division teams in a variety of countries. At the time Ulm was competing in the 2.Bundesliga South and was unable to pay first division money. EJ chose to sign with the Demon Astronauts Amsterdam, but due to a dispute, never played a game for the team. As a result, Amsterdam held his player passport and EJ was unable to pursue his professional career overseas for two seasons. Throughout the two seasons "off", ratiopharm Ulm maintained contact with the sharpshooter. Dabbling with some CBA tryouts with the Albany Patroons, Gallup attended other exposure camps including Backcourt Camp at Syracuse New York where he and Ulm Head Coach Mike Taylor met for the first time in person. This year, when the "stand-bye American" opportunity presented itself in Ulm, EJ was extremely excited. He turned out to be a perfect fit.
EJ Gallup has his sights set on a breakout next season!
Since joining his new team in Ulm, Gallup has gradually regained his rhythm and form. Missing two seasons of competitive basketball, a comeback of sorts like this takes time. Using the "Stand By American" position wisely, Ulm provided the opportunity for EJ finish the 2006-2007 season with the team with an eye for 2007-2008. The plan has fallen into place perfectly. EJ has found his rhythm and fells great about Ulm. The one year extension comes at a time when Gallup has shown signs of a breakout. After a personal 16 point 4 three pointer fourth quarter explosion in Ulm's April 27th scrimmage against Austrian Champion Gmunden Swans, EJ made his mark against the Artland Dragons giving Ulm 11 points off the bench in last weekends road loss at Artland Arena. As an "Aufsteiger" ratiopharm Ulm did many things extremely well, but shooting three point shots was not one of them. Adding Gallup immediately upgrades Ulm's perimeter attack.
