ratiopharm Ulm draws Trier in German Cup!
@
ratiopharm Ulm topped TBB Trier Saturday at Sportszentrum Kuhberg. Ordinarily the rematch would have to wait for the regularly scheduled March 29th game when Ulm travels to Trier Arena. Sunday, plans changed.
During halftime of the Telekom Baskets Bonn at NewYorker Phantoms Braunschweig game played at Volkswagonhalle in Braunschweig, Bundesliga Commissioner Jan Pommer was joined by guest Nadine Ernsting-Krienke (German womens Ice Hockey star) and BBL.TV hostess Sarah Beckmann to unveil the 2007-2008 German Cup Draw. Germany's international teams --- including brose Baskets Bamberg in the Euroleague and ULEB CUP competitors ALBA Berlin, Artland Dragons, EnBW Ludwigsburg, Koln 99ers and Deutsche Bank Skyliners --- received a bye for this 1.Bundesliga round. Several PROA and PROB teams have won their way to this point including Stahnsdorf, Schalke, Rhondorf, MBC, Chuxhaven, Kaiserslautern and Bayreuth. November 21st will settle the final non-Bundesliga entrant as the proveo Merlins of Crailsheim host USC Heidelberg to see who will face Jena. The next round of German Cup games will take place December 4th through 6th.
Last season ratiopharm Ulm topped Kaiserslautern and Giessen on the road before falling in Ludwigsburg during the Quarterfinals. Trier traveled to Chemnitz where current Trier assistant coach Mike Smith guided the 99ers to an upset victory over their Bundesliga guests. This seasons matchup comes on the heels of Saturdays game at Sportszentrum Kuhberg which saw Trier play very well in the first half and Ulm play very well in the second. German basketball fans know anything can happen in the Cup as the exciting single-elimination tournament progresses throughout the season. Once again, this season, the German Cup leads to Color Line Arena in Hamburg May 3rd and 4th.
