Ulm Hosts Heidelberg in Annual Soflingen KUSS!

Each of the last four seasons, ratiopharm Ulm has made their home debut in the annual Soflingen KUSS game as part of the weekend celebration at the Sports Club that hosts daily morning workouts for Ulm's Bundesliga team.  This Saturday, ratiopharm Ulm hosts Pro A opponent USC Heidelberg for a 6pm tip off in ratiopharmhalle at TSG Soflingen as a featured event from Soflingen's KUSS weekend.  After a successful two weeks progress in the preseason, ratiopharm Ulm has topped Pro A opponents Nordlingen and Bayreuth in earlier exhibition action setting up Saturday's exciting matchup in the Soflingen KUSS game.

Ulm F Konrad Wysocki has topscored in both preseason games averaging 14.5ppg against Nordlingen and Bayreuth.

Basketball fans in Ulm have anticipated ratiopharm Ulm's return to action throughout the long summer months in the city on the Donau.  Finally, Saturday night at Soflingen, fans will have the chance to see their new team live in a home game for the first time.  Captain Emeka Erege, who missed the first week of preseason with a nagging muscle strain, returned succcessfully against Bayreuth on Tuesday boosting Ulm's lineup to full strength.  In the teams early aciton, the offense has show excellent potential with terrific shooters and skilled passers.  On the defensive side, Ulm must remain focused and pay the price for improvement.

Ulm Power Forward Jeff Gibbs has shown improved perimeter skills in the early preseason!

On the other hand, Heidelberg has high hopes for their first season in Pro A.  Head Coach Thorsten Daume took the reigns midway through last season and is focused to bring a winner to the Heidelberg region.  While Daume inherited the team last season, the former Schwelm head coach has added key players John Bynum, Alexander Starr and Michael Jones while bringing back Peter Huber-Saffer, Peer Wente, Tobi Stoll and Sebastian Adeberg.  Playing last season with Bremerhaven, Bynum scored 19 points in Ulm during one of his top games with the Eisbaren.  A terrific defender, Bynum should be a great addition for Heidelberg this season.  Wente is a bulls-eye three point threat with ability to play the three or four spots and with Huber-Saffer, Heidelberg has a powerful inside player capable of double-double production and Adeberg is a versatile player with good skills.

Ulm PG Kyle Bailey has picked up the teams system well and demonstrated his all around skill in two preseason wins.

From 2002-2003 thru 2005-2006 seasons, ratiopharm Ulm and USC Heidelberg met two times per season with Ulm winning 5 of 6 meetings.  Now for Saturday's home debut, the Ulm-Heidelberg tradition will continue as fans get a sneak preview during the 2007-2008 preseason.  Part of an overall celebration of fitness and exercise, ratiopharm Ulm's entire organization has enjoyed the annual KUSS game at TSG Soflingen for the last four seasons.

Young German wing Sebastian Betz is a top prospect with outstanding work ethic!

Two week and two games into the preseason, ratiopharm Ulm has made significant progress.  As the team works their way into game-shape and learns the system, players have shown strong work ethic and solid teamwork.  Of particular note, All Star forward Jeff Gibbs has demonstrated improved perimeter skills, shooting guard EJ Gallup has shown explosive scoring ability, top young talent Sebastian Betz has been impressive with his work ethic and new point guards Kyle Bailey and Dru Joyce have been excellent.  While Captain Emeka Erege missed the first week with a muscle strain, energizing forward Konrad Wysocki performed brilliantly leading the team in scoring at 14.5ppg in the opening two preseason games.  Big men Bryan Lucas and Sean Finn are coming along fine and dependable team players Jan Sprunken and Florian Mobius are as ready as ever.  Overall, Ulm is working hard together for improvement.

Head Coach Mike Taylor is pleased with preseason progress.
