TIGERS EDGE ULM IN TOUGH PRESEASON GAME!
In a terrific preseason game filled with regular season intensity, rivals ratiopharm Ulm and Walter Tigers Tubingen tipped off their Kaiserslautern Tournament by renewing their traditional Badem-Wurtenburg Derby Saturday night at the Sportszentrum Bad Homburg. After Ulm started strong running to a 24-12 lead after one quarter, Tubingen battled back and cut the Ulm lead to 36-34 at half. Tubingen made a third quarter run before Ulm answered with a run of their own to take a lead. Down the stretch, intense defense from both teams combined with preseason execution added to the excitement. Holding a three point lead with under 24 seconds to play, Tubingen played the fouling game. After Dru Joyce sank two clutch free throws, Ulm went for steals before fouling to extend the game. Tubignen sank both and Ulm was down three again. A second foul sent Joyce to the foul line again with 6 seconds to play. This time, Dru missed the first foul shot before intentionally missing the second. A loose ball was recovered by Tubingen. Following two more Tiger makes, Joyce buried a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to close the action from a quality preseason game. Ulm shot 41% from the floor and made 9 of 19 (47%) from three while outrebounding the Tigers 36-26. In the loss, Ulm missed 17 free throws shooting 26 of 43 from the foul line.
