Last season ratiopharm Ulm advanced all the way to the Elite Eight round of the German Cup beating Trier and Paderborn before falling in a classic double overtime game to ALBA Berlin in MaxSchmellinghalle.
In 2006-2007, Ulm also advanced to the Elite Eight round of the German Cup winning in Kaiserslautern and Giessen before losing to Ludwigsburg. Of note, the Kaiserslautern team was coached by current Bayern Munich manager Stephan Seile, a familiar face to Ulm fans.

Much has changed for both ratiopharm Ulm and Bayern Munich over the last few seasons. As ratiopharm Ulm went on to win the 2.Bundesliga South and battle in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich reduced their basketball program for several seasons playing 3rd division (regionalliga) before obtaining a 'Wildcard' lisence for the second division Pro A this past summer. Manager Stephan Seile has worked extremely hard to develop the winning framework for the basketball team and experienced Head Coach George Kampf is among the top coaches in the Pro A. Together, the team is striving to bring Bundesliga basketball to the beautiful German city of Munich in the near future.

Bayern Munich beat Bundesliga power brose Baskets Bamberg in the preseason bringing a basketball fever to Munich. Despite the raised expectations and pre-season energy, Bayern Munich's regular season has opened slower than hoped. Currently 2-4, Munich is aiming to find their rhythm. Bayern Munich's season tipped off with one of the biggest games of the year as MiddleDeutscherBasketball Club (MBC) visited Saebener Strasse gym for a fantatsic season opener between two preseason Pro A favorites October 3rd. MBC got the upper hand with an 81-66 win. Bayern bounced back with an 89-86 road win that same weekend evening their record at 1-1 Sunday October 5th. The next three weeks Munich slipped into a three game skid losing 86-77 at home to Karlsruhe October 11th, then in Schalke 88-81 October 18th and 84-67 at home to Jena October 25th. Last weekend, Munich snapped their losing streak with a 73-65 road win in Essen November 1st. For Bayern Munich, Tuesday's German Cup game is a chance to gain momentum and upset a Bundesliga opponent.

Romeo Travis slashes to the rim against ALBA Berlin
Bayern Munich features an athletic backcourt including point guard Kelvin Parker (15.2ppg 2.6reb 2.6ast 31% threes), versatile wing Tim Morris (14ppg 4reb 23%threes) and recently signed scoring guard Cedric Brooks (20pt 5 for 7 threes in his first game with Munich). Athletic forward Jamar Howard (12.4ppg 6reb) brings tremendous energy and skillful power forward Michael Buse (23.8ppg 3.6reb 30%threes) brings experience from MBC, Gottingen and Nordlingen. Physical Stuart Robbins (6.3ppg 4reb) is solid in the middle and brings excellent energy as well. From the bench, Munich features forward Markus Huebner (5.6ppg 1.8reb) and guard Antonio Lang in the rotation. Shooting guard Seth Engelken (8.2ppg 3.2reb 47% threes) was recently injured and will miss several weeks of action.

Ulm's Per Gunther is working to expand his game!
For ratiopharm Ulm, the teams third game in five days brings more challenges off the floor. Once again the team will be without defensive stopper Keith Triplett who has missed the last two games with an arm infection. Also day to day is forward Romeo Travis who is hobbled from a knee bruise suffered in Friday's home win against Giessen. Ulm's bench will become a factor to deal with the issues of fatigue and injuries as they meet the challenges in Munich. Recently, Ulm's bench has been strong with Per Gunther, Sebastian Betz and Dan Fitzgerald playing particularly well. But no Ulm player has been hotter than center Sean Finn who is now shooting 70% from the floor for the year and has made 26 of 31 shots over the teams last 3 games. Certainly ratiopharm Ulm aims to maintain their momentum from last weekends exciting games as they meet their first challenges in the German Cup.
