ULM EARNS EXCITING CUP WIN OVER BAYERN MUNICH!
Jeff Gibbs posted a powerful 18 point 11 rebound double double leading ratiopharm Ulm's solid team effort in an exciting 92-89 German Cup victory Tuesday night at City Sporthalle Saebener Strasse in Munich. Hot outside shooting from Sebastian Betz in the first half and Dan Fitzgerald in the second sparked Ulm's attack and a hot-shooting Ulm offense buried 13 of 25 threes (52%) in the win. Ulm advances to meet Ewe Baskets Oldenburg in the next round of the German Cup to be played later this month.

After a fantastic basketball weekend in Ulm which saw ratiopharm Ulm beat the Giessen 46ers Friday night before falling to defending Bundesliga champions ALBA Berlin Sunday afternoon, Ulm traveled to the beautiful German city of Munich for Tuesday nights German Cup game. With Keith Triplett resting his arm infection and Romeo Travis playing limited minutes to rest his knee, ratiopharm Ulm tipped off their third game in five days with a shortened bench.
Dru Joyce drove the Ulm offense with a quality 16 point 5 rebound 9 assist performance including 3 of 4 three point shots.
ratiopharm Ulm established their inside game in the opening minutes. Jeff Gibbs and Sean Finn finished plays in the paint. Lee Humphrey buried a three. Ulm's offense found their rhythm. Bayern Munich responded and when Kelvin Parker sank a free throw the upset-minded hosts took a 16-15 lead. Bench production pushed Ulm back ahead 25-20 at the end of the first quarter.
Continuing to take control of the game, Sean Finn continued his good work inside while Sebastian Betz provided the production from the perimeter. Betz buried 3 of 5 first half three point attempts to lead the attack. Ulm's strong second quarter built a 40-24 lead. But the hardworking Bayern Munich team trimmed the margin over the last minutes of the first half. Led by Parker and Tim Morris, Bayern fought back after a transition basket before the buzzer, Ulm's 16 point advantage was cut to 49-44 at half.
In the first twenty minutes, Ulm's offense hit 57% from the floor and sank 7 of 14 threes while outrebounding Bayern Munich 22-10. A key aspect of Ulm's strong first half play revolved around their 10 offensive rebounds.

Cedric Brooks played well for Bayern Munich finishing with 19 points in the 92-89 Ulm win.
Opening play in the third quarter, ratiopharm Ulm maintained their lead and five minutes into the second half led 61-55. Lee Humphrey and Dru Joyce both drilled two threes in the stretch. Ulm outscored Munich 23-19. Finishing the third quarter strong, Ulm took a 72-63 lead into the final ten minutes.
Ulm's offense continued to produce but Bayern Munich rallied. Several turnovers from Ulm contributed to the Bayern run. With Cedric Brooks, Kelvin Parker, Tim Morris and Jamar Howard attacking, Munich cut the score to 80-74 with five minutes to play. Relying on their offense to keep scoring, Ulm turned to sharpshooting forward Dan Fitzgerald to seal the win. Fitzgerald buried back to back threes in the closing minutes helping Ulm advance to the next round of the German Cup. Bayern never stopped their comeback effort. At the buzzer, Ulm's strong offensive game and good rebounding work helped them earn the 92-89 win.

Lee Humphrey drilled 4 of 8 threes to finish with 12 points and Sebastian Betz's 3 first half threes led to 11 in the win. Dan Fitzgerald's big baskets led to 9 points and Michael Schroeder added a strong 6 points 6 rebounds for Ulm. As a team, ratiopharm Ulm shot 56% from the floor and buried 13 of 25 threes for 52%. Ulm also outrebounded Bayern Munich 44-25 including 18 offensive boards. Jamar Howard paced Munich's production with a 22 point 10 rebound double double followed by 19 points apiece from Cedric Brooks and Kelvin Parker. Tim Morris finished with 18 points in the loss.

With the win, ratiopharm Ulm advances to the next round of the German Cup and will face Ewe Baskets Oldenburg at Ewe Arena later this month. Next up for ratiopharm Ulm is a road trip to Bonn for Saturday's 7:30pm tip off at Telekom Dome.
