Scouting Reports

 

Offense: Ulm scores in transition and features a balanced team offensive attack that often puts 4 or 5 players in double figures.  The team runs NBA quick hitting sets including isolations, ballscreens, post ups and screening for jump shots.  Playing fast, Ulm loves the uptempo game. 

Defense:  Ulm will change defenses effectively applying full court defensive pressure for 40 minutes using a varitey of presses and traps.  Physical and intense, Ulm is deep, athletic and big.

Offense: Heidelberg relies on point guard Ronnie Taylor's play in transition, effective set plays in the halfcourt and quality three point shooting from all over the floor.  Well balanced and well prepared, Heidelberg plays fundamental basketball

Defense: Heidelberg plays mostly man to man but will play their "2 fist" zone and likes to press (1-2-1-1) trapping the inbound pass after free throws.

Offense: Nurnberg relies on well executed complex set plays allowing point guard Marcel Tenter ballscreens to get into the lane or space and screening for excellent scoring guard Julius Jenkins to go to work.  A well balanced team, Tenter changes speeds well and pushes the ball brilliantly in transition.  Perimeter shooters stretch defenses while big bodies inside can score and rebound.

Defense:  Nurnberg plays mostly man to man and likes to switch "like" screens.  Karim Aw is a presence in the paint few teams have --- a great shot blocker and defensive rebounder, Aw anchors the Falcons D.

Offense:  Chemnitz runs simple set plays using screen the screener options.  The 99ers also will backscreen for ballscreeners on the wing.  Chemnitz likes to push the ball in transition and have plenty of good three point threats.  Inside, the high-low combination of Kazarnovsky and Buss in the post is as good as any in the league.

Defense: Chemnitz will mix defenses playing man to man while also using both 2-3 and 3-2 zones.  They will also play a 1-2-2 halfcourt trap called "X".

Offense:  Freiburg relies on three main scoring options to produce every night.  They love to push the ball and play in transition and will attack with aggressive dribble drives designed to draw help for penetration and pitch. Simple ball screen plays and post options help their best weapons get good looks.

Offense:  Fundamental and balanced, Jena relies on high level production from guard Michael Lake and center Oliver Braun. 

Defense:  Jena plays an intense and physical man to man D featuring excellent ball pressure from their small backcourt.  Big forwards also make the frontline physical.

Offense: often playing "small ball" with an undersized 4 man, Bayreuth likes to use "Flex" actions with several options helping free up their players for jumpshots or diagonal screens for post ups.  They like to use ballscreens for Russell and often set staggered double screens for shooters.  They try to push the ball with Russell leading the charge.

Defense:  Mixing man to man and zone, Bayreuth often shows a 3-2 when in zone. An aggressive, hardworking unit, Bayreuth features several long, lanky wings which makes them good in passing lanes.  Matic and Griffin are physical on the block in post D.

Offense:  Traditionally a "flex" team, Bayern Munich incorprates several "flex cut actions" into their set plays.  Munich runs ballscreens and ballback plays but are a deliberate offensive team.

Defense:  Mostly man to man, Munich will mix in some 2-3 zone.  They are a basic team without much pressing and trapping.

Offense: Focused on production from a pair of quality Americans, Lich uses fundamental team sets looking for ball reversal, screening in the post and hi-low situations.  Double screens for three point shooters and unselfish role players make Lich a challenging opponent.

Defense:  Physical, strong rebounding post men and hardworking ballpressuring perimeter players keep Lich in every game.  They favor man to man defense.

Offense:  Running in transition, Kaiserslautern revolves around their import backcourt and three point shooting forwards. 

Defense:  Kaiserslautern has shown more changing defenses this season attempting to press and play more 2-3 zone.

Offense: Young but talented, Breitengussbach runs simple effective sets parent club "Bamberg" has run in the Bundesliga for years. 

Defense: Looking to develop young players, Breitengussbach keeps their game plan simple playing mostly man to man with some 2-3 zone.

Offense: Winning promotion from the 3rd division, Kronberg has shown suspect shot selection and one on one play early in the season.  Talented young players fill the roster but consistency has been their challenge.

Defense:  Kronberg likes to pressure full court in man or play a 2-3 zone.  They will also press (1-2-1-1) and scramble trap in the halfcourt.

Offense:  Basic sets using ballscreens, backscreens for post men and vertical zipper cuts help the young Steeples stay organized. 

Defense:  Ehingen will play majority man to man but show aggressive and passive full court presses ("fire" and "ice").  Their youth has made them foul prone in the early season.
