Jeff Gibbs named All Star!
A day before the 2008 Bundesliga All Star game will be played at SAP Arena in Mannheim Germany, the Bundesliga finalized rosters for their midseason showcase event. Due to a unique flaw in the rules system, ratiopharm Ulm power forward Jeff Gibbs had been overlooked in prior selection. However, after Bamberg guard Demond Greene was injured in Thursday evenings Euroleague win, the Bundesliga needed a replacement. Making the right move and rewarding a true All Star, Jeff Gibbs was added to the South All Star roster and will take part in the Bundesliga All Star game for the second consecutive season. Gibbs, currently the Bundesliga's leading rebounder, will join teammate Konrad Wysocki on the South squad for Saturdays game. Fans voted for the starting five for both the north and south and Jeff Gibbs lost a narrow fan-vote decision to Deutsche Bank Skyliners power forward Derrick Allen (23.7% to 23.3%). Both players are deserving All-Stars. However, Head Coach Dirk Bauermann was forced to select other players in obeying rules that every team must be represented. Until Friday, Jeff Gibbs was a victim of poor rule structure, but the Bundesliga acted quickly to capitalize on a solution that would resolve the issue. Basketball fans from all over the world can watch the game line online using www.sportdigital.tv as BBL.TV covers all the ALL STAR action!
