Saturday January 22nd, 2011 ULM'S ALL STAR FUN! ratiopharm Ulm enjoyed oustanding representation at the 2011 Beko Basketball Bundesliga All Star Day Saturday January 22nd at Trier Arena. Playing with the South team in the BEKO BBL All Star game, ratiopharm Ulm forward Robin Benzing had the honor of starting for the second straight season while teammate Per Gunther came off the bench in the featured game. Meanwhile, the South NBBL All Star team was coached by ratiopharm Ulm's Rainer Bauer and young forward Andreas Wenzl who enjoyed a strong performance in the 'rookie game'.

ratiopharm Ulm forward Robin Benzing looks for a rebound between North All Stars Marcus Goree and Rickey Paulding. ratiopharm Ulm's talented young German combination of Robin Benzing and Per Gunther entered Saturday nights BEKO BBL All Star game at Trier Arena with many positives after making the All Star team for the second season in a row. The game had an entertaining flow throughout the first half as both teams attacked for easy baskets. North took a 37-32 lead after one quarter, but the South team rallied for a 63-57 advantage at half. North team capitalized on South's third quarter cold shooting, turning the South missed shots into fast break opportunities for a 31-10 surge. South battled back in the fourth, but at the final buzzer, North earned an exciting 114-104 victory at the 2011 BEKO BBL All Star game at Trier Arena. Bamberg's Kyle Hines was named MVP for his 15 point 4 rebound performance. Robin Benzing finished the game with 9 points 6 rebounds 2 assists while Per Gunther added 2 points 1 assist for the South team. Bamberg's Tibor Pleiss posted a 13 point 14 rebound double double, Trier's Philipp Zweiner had 15 points and Ludwigsburg's Alex Harris added 13 points for the South team. Leading the North team, Bremerhaven's Torrell Martin topscored with 19 points, Artland's Darren Fenn finished with 14 points 5 boards and Braunschweig's Marcus Goree had a 13 point 10 rebound double double. ALBA Berlin forward Derrick Allen contributed 13 points for the North while ALBA teammate Immanuel McElroy added 10.

Between games, fans at Trier Arena were treated to the SLAM DUNK CONTEST and the THREE POINT SHOOTOUT. Amatuer dunker Salu Benjamin bested Frankfurt's Quantez Robertson and Trier's John Bynum to take home the DUNK CROWN while Hagen's Jacob Burtschi outshot Bamberg's star Casey Jacobsen and Bremerhaven sharpshooter Philipp Schwethelm. 2011 Slam Dunk Contest Prior to the Bundesliga All Star game, the NBBL (youth Bundesliga) held their all star game showcasing the best young talent in Germany. Leading the South All Stars to an exciting 64-59 victory, ratiopharm Ulm's NBBL Head coach Rainer Bauer enjoyed the honor of being selected as Head coach for showcase event. Talented young forward Andreas Wenzl started for the South team and had a solid performance scoring 5 points while grabbing 2 boards in the win. Andreas was a perfect 2 for 2 from the floor in the game. Skilled post player Philipp Neumann took home the game's MVP honors with an excellent 18 point 8 rebound night.
