BAMBERG SHOOTS LIGHTS OUT!

brose Baskets Bamberg buried 18 of 24 shots from beyond the arc in a fantastic three point shooting display keying their 101-78 home win over ratiopharm Ulm before 6,400 fans Wednesdaynight at JAKO Arena in Bamberg.  In the win, Robert Garrett (5 for 5), Karsten Tadda (4 for 4) and Casey Jacobsen (3 for 5) were so hot, the Bamberg three point shooters set off the JAKO Arena fire alarm.  Falling behind early, Ulm's second and third quarter comeback attempts were foiled by Bamberg's hot-three point shooting.  Robin Benzing paced the Ulm attack with 16 points while Lee Humphrey added 13 points and Rocky Trice chipped in 10.

Wednesday nights game was a rematch from one month before when Ulm edged Bamberg 76-75 in an exciting early season game at Sportszentrum Kuhberg.  While Bamberg was focused for revenge from the hardfought road loss in Ulm, Head coach Chris Fleming and his Bamberg team entered Wednesday's game against Ulm with momentum from their weekend overtime road win in Dusseldorf.  Looking for a strong performance, Bamberg's JAKO Arena was the perfect place for their team to make a stand.

ratiopharm Ulm entered JAKO Arena with a game plan to be physical and compete on both ends of the floor.  Coming off their tough road loss in Ludwigsburg, Ulm prepared their team for the challenges of JAKO Arena.

At tip off, Ulm started slow.  Bamberg's Elton Brown bruised his way to the games first basket with a power move in the paint.  Moments later an easy top of the key three from Predrag Suput set off Bamberg's fireworks.  A second Suput three and another triple from Karsten Tadda gave Bamberg a 14-9 lead.  Ulm's offensive execution against the physical Bamberg defense resulted in difficult shots and Ulm's slow transition defense allowed Bamberg several easy opportunities.  Trailing 20-11, after a turnover from an endline inbound play, Ulm used their first timeout.  While Predrag Suput continued to be sharp sinking another shot from beyond the arc, Ulm's Robin Benzing scored to keep Ulm within striking distance.  Bamberg led 23-14.  Ulm's Kevin Kanaskie enterd the game and found John Bryant sealing in the lane in transition before the rookie pg zipped a beautiful ball ahead pass to a streaking Coleman Collins sparking life into Ulm's game.  Bamberg reacted with a timeout.  But Bamberg would finish the first quarter with style as an offensive rebound found an open Robert Garrett who buried a three pointer before the buzzer giving Bamberg a 34-20 lead at the end of one.  Predrag Suput scored 14 first quarter points to spark Bamberg's early run.  The hosts held a 23-11 advantage over the final five minutes of the first quarter helping them take control.

Quarter two, began with more of the same.  Ulm's errors in transition defense allowed easy baskets for Beckham Wyrick and Tibor Pleiss that stretched Bamberg's lead to 38-20.  Rocky Trice responded with a tough pull up J and Robin Benzing buried a three pulling Ulm to 40-25.  A Brian Roberts three for Bamberg led to Ulm's second timeout of the first half.  Ulm continued to make adjustments aiming to find a rhythm in the game, establish defensive stops and cut the deficit to 10 or under by half.  Trailing 49-33, Ulm had three opportunities to trim the gap.  Unfortunately for Ulm, three empty possessions doused their fire and a late first half Casey Jacobsen three fired up Bamberg.  Trailing 52-35 at half, Ulm retreated to the halftime lockerroom looking to regroup.

At the half, the biggest difference in the game came from beyond the arc as Bamberg buried 8 of 12 first half threes compared with Ulm's 1 of 7.  With a game plan to be the physical team, Ulm could only collectively shake their heads at the Bamberg shooting performance.  Trailing by 17 at the half, Ulm set their goals to slowly work their way back into the game by cutting the deficit to 10 by the end of three. 

But as the second half opened, Bamberg continued to roll.   Ulm's Lee Humphrey drilled his first three to put Ulm on the scoreboard in the third quarter.  Bamberg stretched their lead to 60-38 leading to Ulm's second timeout of the second half.  Responding out of the timeout, Ulm's 11-0 trimmed the margin to 60-49.  In the run Ulm's Kevin Kanaskie drilled a left wing three and finished a two on one fast break while Rocky Trice picked off a pass and went in for the uncontested layup.  After Bamberg huddled in a timeout, the hosts held off Ulm's attempt at a run.  After the end of the third quarter, Bamberg's fans could enjoy their teams 77-54 advantage.

In the fourth, Ulm's Lee Humphrey hit two threes and Robin Benzing finished a beautiful left handed scoop shot, but the results were only cosmetic.  Bamberg's shooting display was the theme of the day.  Three's from Karsten Tadda, Robert Garrett and late game Maurice Stuckey provided the 6,400 Bamberg fans with something to celebrate.  Symbolizing the game, Bamberg's Robert Garrett banked in a top of the key three while drawing the foul for a four point play.  Wednesday night was simply Bamberg's day.  At the final horn, Ulm was outshot in their 101-78 road loss as Bamberg buried a sizzing 18 of 24 from three.

ratiopharm Ulm was led by rookie forward Robin Benzing's 16 point performance on a perfect 7 of 7 free throw shooting.  Lee Humphrey hit 3 more three's to add 13 points and Rocky Trice finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals.   As a team, Ulm shot 48% from the floor, hit 5 of 18 threes (28%) and 15 of 18 free throws (83%).  Bamberg outrebounded Ulm 34-28 and dished out 26 assists as a team.  Hitting 5 of 5 threes, Robert Garrett topscored with 17 points for Bamberg while Karsten Tadda's 4 of 4 from beyond the arc helped him total 16.  Casey Jacobsen chipped in 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and Predrag Suput finished with 14 points 4 rebounds 7 assists.
