C Bryan Lucas extends ratiopharm Ulm contract two seasons!
ratiopharm Ulm announced another important signing for the future as big man Bryan Lucas and the German Bundesliga team reached agreement for a two year contract extension. Post man Bryan Lucas will produce for ratiopharm Ulm into the future!
While most German basketball fans quickly notice Ulm's undersized in-the-paint-phenomenon Jeff Gibbs, few fans immediately appreciate Lucas' value. In fact, while Gibbs ranks atop the Bundesliga efficiency ratings, Bryan ranks an impressive 25th in just over 21 minutes per game. Interestingly enough, for example, Bryan ranks ahead of top Bundesliga stars Demond Mallet (27th), Marcin Gortat (28th) and William Avery (30th). Now exactly three weeks after Jeff Gibbs extended his contract with Ulm, Bryan brings added stablity for Ulm's future frontcourt. An intelligent player with excellent skills, Bryan is also a fantastic team player and is a favorite among teammates. Without question Bryan has been an outstanding addition to ratiopharm Ulm this season. The hardworking post players production demonstrates his quality. Currently, Lucas is 11th in the Bundesliga in free throw percentage at 84.5%, his 50% floor shooting places him 29th in field goal percentage and his 36.4% three point accuracy ranks him 48th --- excellent for a big man. Bryan's most memorable performances this season include the 106-83 win in Karlsruhe November 1st when Bryan went crazy hitting 12 of 13 shots to post a 27 point 10 rebound double double. Also in topform Sunday January 28th in the 72-65 road win in Tubingen, Bryan scored 17 points with 11 rebounds for Ulm. Bryan was also strong in the Febuary 4th road loss at ALBA Berlin scoring 17 points with 5 boards and Febuary 25th in Paderborn with 15 points 5 rebounds. Known for his crafty post play, Lucas is most noted for his imfamous "Slippery Eel" move which he used to score a clutch basket against Marcin Gortat in Ulm's upset win over Rheinenergie Koln Febuary 17th.

A popular teammate, Lucas goes hard and loves to compete!
A multi-sport star, Bryan grew up in California where he played basketball, football and baseball. As a high school pitcher, Lucas was drafted by the Colorado Rockies organization. Later, Lucas was a college football quarterback and basketball forward at Azuza Pacific University who set passing records before transfering to follow his dream of playing major college football at North Texas University. A coaching change forced Bryan into basketball fulltime where he has been ever since.

Bryan Lucas currently ranks 11th in the Bundesliga in free throw percentage.
Bryan's career path began with a two season stint in the NBDL with the Fayetteville Patriots in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. Bryan still holds the NBDL record for double-doubles. His stats for those two seasons read as follows:
2002-2003: Fayetteville Patriots (NBDL): 49 games: 8.6ppg, 5.2rpg, 0.4apg, 0.5spg
2003-2004: Fayetteville Patriots (NBDL,1T): 45 games: 13.5ppg, 8.2rpg, 0.9apg, 0.7spg
In 2003, Bryan's Fayetteville team reached the NBDL finals and in 2004, they advanced to the NBDL semifinals. In 2004, Bryan was All-NBDL Honorable Mention. Bryan has also played 5 seasons in the USBL including 49 games for the Kansas Cagerz over three different summers.
After establishing himself in US minor leagues, Lucas set his sights on Europe. In 2004-2005, Bryan played for Furstenfeld in Austria where he produced 21.1ppg, led the league in rebounding at 9.8rpg and shot 33% from three. In 2005-2006, Bryan moved on to Worthersee Piraten in Austria where he scored 20ppg with 12.3rpg. In Austria, Bryan was an all star in 2005 and 2006, was named to the Eurobasket All-Austria 1st team in 2005 and 2006 and was named Austrian Bundesliga Center of the Year in 2005. Following last season, Lucas signed with ratiopharm Ulm in the spring of 2006. Now, along with wife Jane, the two can call Ulm "home" for the next two seasons!
