Sunday night at Volkswagonhalle in Braunschweig, ratiopharm Ulm looks forward to their next challenging road game against one of the best offensive teams in the Bundesliga.  Ulm looks to rebound from last weeks home loss to rival EnBW Ludwigsburg and build on their recent strong performances on the road.  Meanwhile, the Phantoms will be focused for paybacks after their early season defeat in Ulm.  Even more important for the Phantoms is their intense playoff race as the Bundesliga season heads down the stretch.  With both teams focused, Sunday's game is set for an intense rematch.

Preparing for the talented Phantoms, Ulm faces a well-balanced opponent with plenty of offensive weapons.  On the perimeter, Braunschweig features talented shooters complimented by skilled inside players making the Phantoms one of the most talented offensive teams in the Bundesliga.  German National team guard Heiko Schaffartzik leads the way averaging 11.5ppg 3.8ast and shooting 40% from three.  A money player who is not afraid to take the big shot, Heiko has enjoyed an outstanding season and made several game-winning shots for Braunschweig.  Skilled guard Kevin Hamilton compliments Schaffartzik extremely well in the backcourt and has produced 8.9ppg 4.2reb 5.6ast while shooting 32% from three.  Talented wings Brandon Thomas (11ppg 3.1reb 32% three), John Allen (6.8ppg 2.5reb 20% three)and Michael Hicks (9.7ppg 48% threes) provide quality scoring options and depth for the Phantoms.  In the post, Braunschweig recently added high-level post player Marcus Goree and in 7 games the talented forward has contributed 10.4ppg 6.3reb while sparking a Phantoms win streak.  Hardworking German National team center Yassin Idbihi has been terrific this season averaging 11.3ppg 5.4reb along with physical post defense.  Big man Jason Cain brings energy to the front court and has upped his numbers to a strong 10.4ppg 5.7reb this season.  Forwards Thomas Cielebak (6.2ppg 2.8reb 34% threes) and Nils Mittmann provide perimeter shooting threats from the front court and veteran Nate Fox (8ppg 4.5reb 28%three) gives the Phantoms an inside-outside big man who will mix it up.  Braunschweig's new head coach, former German National team player Sebastian Machowski has rebuilt the Phantoms with an excellent mix of experienced Bundesliga veterans along with talented newcomers.  As the season enters the stretch run, Braunschweig is locked in the fight for a playoff spot and the team has the make-up to make it happen.

Braunschweig's 2009-2010 season tipped off with five straight wins but a 2-11 mid-season stretch followed and the Phantoms were 7-11 around the midpoint of the year.  But Braunschweig bounced back winning 7 of their last 8 games fighting their way back into the playoff race.  Most recently, the Phantoms picked up an important road win in Tubingen beating the Tigers 112-104 in overtime last weekend.

As ratiopharm Ulm makes the road trip to Braunschweig, Ulm's lineup remains shorthanded as both Sebastian Betz and Christian Grosse missed the week of practice due to injury.  Basti Betz continues to work his way back from an adductor injury while Christian Grosse's eye injury requiring three stitches kept him off the floor.  On a positive, rookie forward Robin Benzing completed a full week of practice after being slowed by an ankle injury for the last two weeks.  Ulm's practice week was filled with hardwork and the team pushed itself through challenging mid-week sessions.  Despite their position in the standings, playing without danger of relegation or without hopes of playoffs, ratiopharm Ulm is focused to finish the season strong as the team evaluates their current roster for the future.  Ulm's healthy team-chemistry has helped the young team through many ups and downs over the course of this season and the team would like to finish their season strong for each other.
