HERB BROWN VISITS ULM!
ratiopharm Ulm welcomes experienced professional coach Herb Brown to town this weekend for a week-long visit. An outstanding basketball man, Herb was most recently working as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA. Throughout his visit, Herb will spend time with the ratiopharm Ulm team and staff offering expertise from his lifelong basketball adventure. ratiopharm Ulm welcomes Herb Brown for what is sure to be a fantastic visit on and off the floor.

Herb began his coaching career as an assistant at CW Post on Long Island New York from 1960-1964 and was named head coach at Stony Brook from 1964 through 1970 before returning to CW Post as head coach for two seasons. Herb gained professional experience coaching in Puerto Rico and coached the Israel Sabres in the Euroleague in 1975 winning the championship. Later in 1976, Herb was named Head coach of the Detroit Pistons and was at the helm for two years 1976-1977 and 1977-1978 leading Detroit to back-to-back playoff appearances. After his time in Detroit, Herb was Head coach and GM for Tuscon in the WBA before returning to the NBA as an assistant with the Houston Rockets in 1979-1980. All along Herb continued to maintain his contacts in Puerto Rico coaching Isabella Gallitos and eventually working with Puerto Rico Coquis in the CBA during 1983-1984 and 1984-1985. In 1984, Herb was named CBA Coach of the Year. In total, Herb coached 15 summers in the Puerto Rico Basketball League, where his teams went to the playoffs each year and won a championship in 1984. After moving to Cincinnati for two more seasons in the CBA during 1985-1986, Herb returned to the NBA as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns in 1987-1988 and 1988-1989.

Herb's basketball adventure continued as he moved to Spain coaching in the ACB for the next several seasons. Widely regarded as Europe's top league, Herb coached Tau Vitoria in the Spanish ACB while working as an European scout for the Chicago Bulls. Herb continued coaching in Spain through the 1994-1995 season and then returned to the NBA as an assistant with the Indiana Pacers in 1995-1996. Later, Herb moved to Philadelphia as an assistant with the 76ers during 2000-2001. Working under his brother Larry, the Sixers won the 2001 Eastern Conference Championship before losing the the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.
In 2001-2002, Herb was an assistant with the Portland Trailblazers for two years before returning to the bench in Detroit where he was part of the 2003-2004 NBA Champions. Herb's season in Detroit marked his second stint working as an assistant for his brother Larry. Herb moved on to be an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks from 2004-2005 through 2006-2007. Herb also led Team USA to a gold and two bronze medals in the Maccabiah Games in Israel, including a bronze in 2005. Since 2007, Herb had been reunited with his brother Larry for a third time as an assistant with the Charlotte Bobcats until the staff headed was let go.

The author of three books about basketball including 'Let's Talk Defense', Herb Brown is a frequent participant in the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program, as well as Peace Players International and the Friendship Games. During the Basketball Without Boarders 2009 in South Africa, ratiopharm Ulm Assistant coach Tunde Adekola worked closely with Herb throughout the camp.
Earlier this season, legendary Coach Svetislav Pesic visited ratiopharm Ulm for a week before he took the coaching job in Valencia in the Euroleague and Spanish ACB. Experience with Coach Pesic was tremendous for ratiopharm Ulm and the team now is excited about the opportunity to spend time on and off the floor with Herb Brown.
