ULM MAKES MIDSEASON ROSTER MOVES!
As ratiopharm Ulm returned to the practice floor December 29th, the team used their two week holiday break to make several significant roster moves.
First, veteran guard Dennis Woolfolk was named Head Coach of the teams recently acquired farm team in Neu Ulm. Woolkfolk, 37, a two year member of the ratiopharm Ulm roster, enjoyed a successful playing career in both Germany and Portugal. Interestingly, the Coker College product signed with BBC Neu Ulm before the 2003-2004 season. After a frustrating first half of the season with the then 3rd division Neu Ulm team, Woolfolk signed with ratiopharm Ulm in the 2.Bundesliga and finished out the second half of the season. A great team member, Dennis oten passed on his veteran advice to younger guards in practice and in games making a tremendous impact on the Ulm players. For Neu Ulm, Woolfolk will work as head coach and also remain on the active roster as a player. Dennis will remain active with ratiopharm Ulm as well, joining Rainer Bauer (youth director) as an assistant.
Appointing Woolfolk to his new position, opened a roster spot with ratiopharm Ulm's 2.Bundesliga team. The team immediately called up 16 year old prospect Benni Gulde to fill the void. A German youth National team member, Benni has developed a strong reputation among youth basketball circles in Germany. A native of nearby Oberelchingen, Gulde has shown an aggressive and physical game for his age plus a high skill level. Benni will play with a dual lisence for both ratiopharm Ulm and Neu Ulm for the remainder of the season. Ulm and Neu Ulm have arranged a practice schedule that will allow both Woolfolk and Gulde to participate in both practices throughout the week.
Finally, in a major roster move, ratiopharm Ulm announced the release of talented power forward Niki Arinze. The skilled 4 man averaged 15.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game over the teams first 12 outings. The team has enters the second half of the season with an open Import spot and will rely on forwards Florian Mobius and Antoine Sinclair to produce at the power forward position.
