Ulm Preseason Moves Forward!! ratiopharm Ulm completed their second week of the 2008-2009 preseason this weekend with a 62-60 road win over Bundesliga newcomer Nordlingen Friday night at Hermann-Kessler-Halle. Ulm All Star power forward Jeff Gibbs and talented wing Romeo Travis led the offensive attack with 11 points apiece followed by 10 points apiece from point guard Dru Joyce and Center Sean Finn. Friday nights game was true to preseason form with positive potential for the future mixed with strong effort and inconsistent execution in the present. A motivated Nordlingen team captured the first quarter with a 16-13 advantage as both teams worked to find a rhythm. Ulm responded with a strong second quarter run and took a 37-34 lead into half. Nordlingen used an 11-1 run in the third quarter to build a 45-38 lead, their biggest of the game. Ulm's Lee Humphrey and Dru Joyce buried back to back threes and Ulm stormed back. After an exciting finish to the third quarter, Nordlingen held a 54-50 advantage. Down the stretch of the fourth quarter, Nordlingen was up 60-57 with three minutes to play but the Ulm defense toughened and would not allow another Nordlingen point the entire game. Ulm's Jeff Gibbs and Dru Joyce sank clutch free throws helping to seal the hardfought and exciting 62-60 preseason road win. As a team Ulm shot 41% (20 for 49) from the floor and and 57% (16 of 28) from the foul line. Nordlingen, was led by Monta McGee with 15 points and 14 points 5 rebounds from Omari Westley as the hosts hit 23 of 58 shots (40%) and 9 of 17 free throws (53%).
Ulm's Romeo Travis made a handful of big baskets for his team as he totaled 11 points in the win including this first half slam.
Keith Triplett was outstanding defensively Friday night in Nordlingen and continues to impress with his preseason performance in Ulm.

Earlier in the week, ratiopharm Ulm traveled to Leitershofen for a Wednesday night preseason game which was Ulm's first action against an opponent in the preseason. New shooting guard Lee Humphrey shot the lights out hitting 8 of 11 threes to topscore with 31 points in leading ratiopharm Ulm to a 110-70 road victory over the Regionaliga (4th division) Leitershofen team. Behind Humphrey, the Ulm attack was balanced with most players ranging from 10-12 points in the win.

Tuesday, the new team will be unveiled in the city at the TIP OFF GALA at the Ulm StadtHaus. Next weekend, ratiopharm Ulm is excited about the Kaiserslautern Tournament Saturday August 30th and Sunday August 31st where Ulm meets rival Walter Tigers Tubingen Saturday night at 830pm and facing either host Kaiserslatuern or fellow Pro A opponent Bayern Munich on Sunday. Immediately after the Kaiserslautern Tournament, ratiopharm Ulm heads to Bree Belgium for a week long training camp and several preseason games.
Ulm C Sean Finn scored 10 points in solid action before fouling out.
