Wednesday September 2nd, 2009 PRESEASON WEEK 1! ratiopharm Ulm tipped off their preseason 2009 Saturday August 29th at Sportszentrum Kuhberghalle in Ulm Germany. Filled with energy and enthusiasm for the new season, the team worked productively through their first two practices on the 29th before enjoying a public practice in front of over 500 excited Ulm fans on Sunday August 30th. ratiopharm Ulm's week one of preseason 2009 includes two-a-day practices building up to the teams first preseason game Saturday September 5th against Pro A opponent Nordlingen in Aalen, Germany. On Sunday afternoon, Austrian power Gmunden Swans visit Sportszentrum Kuhberg in Ulm for a closed scrimmage.
ratiopharm Ulm welcomed several new faces to the team including (from left) post man John Bryant (St. Joe's), forward Christian Burns (Porto, Portugal/Philadelphia University), guard Kevin Kanaskie (Middle Tennessee State), guard Rocky Trice ( BG74 Goettingen / South Carolina) and post man Coleman Collins (Fort Wayne, NBDL/ Virginia Tech). Head Coach Mike Taylor and team tipped off preseason practice August 29th before enjoying a public practice August 30th at Sportszentrum Kuhberg in Ulm.

ratiopharm Ulm names Lee Humphrey Team Captain! ratiopharm Ulm sharpshooter Lee Humphrey has been named team for the 2009-2010 season. Playing his second season on the Donau, the Maryville, Tennessee native was part of the back to back National Championship teams at the University of Florida where he set NCAA records for three pointers made in NCAA tournament play (55 makes in 14 games) and most consecutive games making a three point shot 39 ranging from November 14th, 2006 through March 2, 2007 for the Gators. Lee also holds University of Florida basketball records for most three pointers made in a career (288) and most three pointers made in a season (113, twice in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007). As a first year player in the Bundesliga, Lee averaged 10.9ppg and led the Bundesliga in three point makes with 90 on 43.8% from beyond the arc. Named captain, Lee assumes duties held by Emeka Erege, who was an outstanding leader for ratiopharm Ulm during his six seasons in Ulm.

PER AND ROBIN TERRIFIC FOR GERMAN NATIONAL TEAM! ratiopharm Ulm young German talents, Per Gunther and Robin Benzing have both been outstanding in their efforts with the German National team as they build up for the European Championships this September in Poland. The Bundesliga rookie of the year last season, Per Gunther has sparked the German team with his playmaking and defense as the third point guard in a rotation behind Steffen Hamann and Heiko Schaffartzik. To date, Per's best performance came against Croatia in the Supercup where Per picked up 7 points 2 assists off the German bench. Picking up his first National team experience, Per also enjoyed a strong summer with the A2 National team also coached by Dirk Bauermann. Meanwhile, the 6'11 Robin Benzing has been impressive and productive for team Germany as the 20 year old forward scored 13 points against Macedonia in the Supercup at JAKO Arena in Bamberg. Robin Benzing scores against Macedonia as part of his excellent summer for the German National team!
