Monday September 7th, 2009 Ulm Splits Opening Preseason Games! ratiopharm Ulm split a pair of weekend games as they opened the 2009 preseason schedule. Coleman Collins scored 22 points and Rocky Trice added 17 as Ulm beat Nordlingen 80-71 in Saturday night's preseason opener. Sunday in Aalen, Ulm fell to Allianz Gmunden Swans. Coleman Collins was once again topscrorer with 23 points against Gmunden and Christian Burns added 19. After one week of practice, the weekend split was filled with positives as the young Ulm team saw their first game action together. Ulm topped Nordlingen 80-71 in their preseason opener Saturday September 5th in Nordlingen. Coleman Collins led Ulm scoring with 22 points 6 rebounds followed by Rocky Trice who hit 3 of 4 threes on his way to 17 points and 6 boards. Lee Humphrey drilled 3 of 5 threes to add 12 points and Christian Burns tallied 10 points despite foul trouble. Rookie guard Kevin Kanaskie finished with 6 points 5 assists for Ulm. A strong defensive effort in the third quarter helped Ulm open a 17 point advantage before cruising to the 80-71 win. Playing in Aalen, Germany, ratiopharm Ulm fell 96-74 Sunday afternoon against Allianz Gmunden Swans from the Austrian Bundesliga. Ulm opened strong taking a first quarter lead before the Swans rallied to take a 53-44 halftime advantage. Gmunden made a run in the third quarter as Ulm ran out of gas. Coleman Collins topscored for Ulm with 23 points followed by 19 points from Christian Burns. Ulm guard Rocky Trice left the game in the fourth quarter with a hand injury. Ulm played the two game weekend without four key players, Per Gunther, Robin Benzing, Sebastian Betz and John Bryant.

ratiopharm Ulm travels to Munich Tuesday for an 8pm tip off against Pro A team Bayern Munich as the preseason continues. After splitting their opening weekend games, ratiopharm Ulm welcomes back Sebastian Betz to the active lineup after Basti had missed the entire preseason due to an ankle injury suffered in workouts over the summer. Bayern Munich, known as a soccer power, has been a solid second division basketball team in Germany for years. Last season ratiopharm Ulm met Bayern Munich in the German Cup with Ulm advancing after a 92-89 win.
