Ulm Team Game Saturday! ratiopharm Ulm completes their first full week of preseason practice with their annual Ulm Team Game, an intrasquad scrimmage under full game conditions. After tipping off their 2008-2009 preseason with an open practice for the public Sunday night August 10th, ratiopharm Ulm made excellent progress through their first week of two-a-day practices.
Ulm players bring it in after enjoying a challenging workout during the teams opening week of preseason practice. Meeting Saturday night August 9th for a team dinner at TSG Soflingen, ratiopharm Ulm made their 2008-2009 debut before 500 fans in a public practice the next evening at Ulm University Gym North. Throughout the week, the team met twice daily for intense defensive drillwork in the morning and uptempo offensive practice in the evening. Working in 5 new players and 4 young talents, the 5 veteran players experienced in the Ulm system provided excellent leadership and guidance to the rest of the team.
Ulm point guard Dru Joyce has his sights set on an excellent season! ratiopharm Ulm opens the 2008-2009 regular season Wednesday night September 24th with perennial Bundesliga power brose Baskets Bamberg at JAKO Arena. Building up to the season tipoff in Bamberg, Ulm will play 11 preseason games highlighted by the Kaiserslautern Tournament (with rival Tubingen and Bayern Munich) August 30th/31th, a training camp in Bree Belgium September 1-6th, a tournament in Oostende Belgium September 13th/14th and home and home preseason games with rival Ludwigsburg Wednesday September 10th in Ulm and Tuesday September 16th in Ludwigsburg.
Ulm's Romeo Travis and teammates aim to reach new heights in 2008-2009! ratiopharm Ulm returning players opened the week of practice with intensity and energy. Captain Emeka Erege's signing was announced late in the summer just before the start of practice but the hardworking leader has offered encouragement and words of wisdom for his new team. Two Time Bundesliga All Star Jeff Gibbs has also started the preseason and established himself as a leader for the team. Akron, Ohio natives Dru Joyce and Romeo Travis return to Ulm from strong summers in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Both Dru and Romeo embrace bigger roles within the Ulm team this season and bring tremendous confidence to meet the challenges of increased responsibility this year. 7 foot Center Sean Finn has returned after a strong summer in the weight room and aims to continue his development from last year which helped him finish the season with several excellent games and quality production. Finally, talented young German wing Sebastian Betz took the summer to rest his body and recover from minor injuries and is reaping the benefits as preseason practice starts with a terrific first week of workouts.
Ulm C Sean Finn returned to preseason practice in good shape and has opened the 2008-2009 with a strong first week of work. New faces in the Ulm lineup have also made positive first impressions during the teams opening week of preseason. Sharpshooting Lee Humphrey has been excellent and fit in well with his new team in Ulm. Like Lee, talented Keith Triplett has also been impressive on both ends of the floor with his quick hands and outstanding feel for the game. The two bring a terrific combination to the Ulm backcourt for the upcoming season.

Keith Triplett has been fantastic defensively and shown a great feel for the game in the first week of practice. Rookie forward Dan Fitzgerald has also has made a great first impression during the opening week of preseason practice. The accurate shooting forward from Marquette University has shown versatility with his skills and an ability to compliment his new frontcourt teammates extremely well. Along with Fitzgerald, fellow newcomer to Ulm, big man Michael Schroeder has upgraded his new teams frontcourt and showed signs of potential for much improvement.
Rookie forward Dan Fitzgerald has made a terrific first impression. Dan also celebrated his 24th birthday August 13th with his new basketball family in Ulm!
New C Michael Schroeder is a key addition for the Ulm frontcourt. Joining Ulm's opening week late, rookie point guard Per Gunther arrived Tuesday evening for his first appearance with ratiopharm Ulm after helping to lead the German Under 20 National team to a Group Championship in Romania. Per's outstanding summer with the German National program sets the table for his transition from German Pro A basketball to the Bundesliga with a positive note.
Ulm Captain Emeka Erege has provided the young team with words of wisdom and outstanding example. Finally, Ulm's young prospects have worked hard during the teams first week. New point guard Cedric von During, a Swiss-born talent who joined Ulm after a successful season in Rhondorf NBBL, has been a pleasant surprise with his advanced skills. Hardworking Patrick Schaerer has demonstrated his improvement from last season and Alexander Heide continues to learn and develop with his hardwork. Finally, newcomer Nemanja Kekic arrived Thursday for his first practice in Ulm and will be a key for the NBBL team.

Ulm Head Coach Mike Taylor is pleased with the progress from the preseasons first week of work.
