THAMES VALLEY TIGERS YOUTH TEAM VISITS ULM!
While ratiopharm Ulm prepared to meet the Chemnitz 99ers, there was more exciting basketball action in the city of Ulm April 1st and 2nd. The Ulm youth teams hosted an under 14 tournament featuring junior teams from Bayern Munich, Heuchelhof (Wurzburg) and Bracknell, England's own Thames Valley Tigers.

The exciting weekend of action tipped of Friday night with games being played at Ulm's Listhalle where Thames Valley met Ulm. Tiger players had spent the day traveling and challenged and unbeaten Ulm under 14 team in a competitive game. Saturday afternoon, the tournament moved to the new Ulm University gym on campus in Ulm. Each team played two games Saturday with the Tigers showing good form against the Wurzburg based Heuchelhof youth team. Ulm and Bayern Munich teams also played well.

Saturday night, the Tiger team and travel party enjoyed the Ulm-Chemnitz 2.Bundesliga South game before taking in a post game dinner at TSG Soflingen's Italian restaurant. Sunday morning the group was treated to a Bavarian breakfast and tour of the city before beginning the trip back to the UK.
A British Basketball League organization, Thames Valley Tigers features a well structured youth basketball system and performed very well in their trip to Germany. An excellent life-experience for all the young people involved, both Ulm and Thames Valley officials hope this weekend and be the beginning of an international basketball exchange. Ulm and Thames Valley also share other common experiences. Former Ulm forward Ed Williams played for the Tigers the season before he wore the Ulm uniform and current Ulm forward Antoine Sinclair was offered a contract by the Tigers his first season out of Christopher Newport University in 2000-2001.
Ulm has built an outstanding youth basketball program under the direction of Youth Basketball Coordinator Rainer Bauer. Over the last two seasons under Bauer, the Ulm youth program has made tremendous strides and recorded excellent jumps in participation. Cooperation with clubs like Thames Valley and Bayern Munich opens wonderful opportunities for youth players and events like last weekends youth tournament in Ulm are great for the basketball culture and everyone involved.
